my “old school”

as i was sitting here unpatiently waiting for my n95 8gb to ship i was thinking of the good ole’ days of bbs’. anyone remember those? you know – the “internet” before the internet? where everything was text based. even the pictures.

i dont even remember how i came across that .txt file with all those local bbs numbers. but, i did come across it and somehow i figured out how to use windows terminal (win 3.11) to dial them up. i used to love downloading from the cd-roms they had on some of them. just tring out one program after another. sitting up all night tying up the phoneline with my 2400 bps modem.

i was approximately 14 then. i think i met like 5 girls from those things. my mom was too nice to take me to the mall or even the next state to meet some chick i met “online”. not that i was too much of a geek or some hideous looking person to meet a girl (offline hah!!) but i guess i was just umm too much of a geek to get off the computer to do that.

i used to use worldgroup bbs software to log on to another worldgroup bbs in turn using one of their paying customer lines so i could chat for free. i traded that old 2400 modem for the cracked worldgroup software when my dad felt bad for my super slow downloads and bought me a 28.8 bps modem.

life was easy then. susposed to be easier now isnt it? guess thats just what growing up means. leaving the past and moving on. comment anyone?
